PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE FY 2010

"Try to learn something about everything and everything about something." -
Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895)

Welcome to the 2009/2010, session of the Norfolk and Plymouth Estate and Business Planning Council. Since 1977, we have been providing educational programs and networking opportunities for our diversified group of professionals.

Last November a new administration took over in Washington promising change. Our jobs are about to become even more exciting and challenging as we strive to keep up with changes in tax laws and other areas. Ignorance on our part can be devastating to our clients’ futures. In addition, we have faced a frightening period in our economy (both nationally and worldwide) and markets. It is crucial that we remain informed in order to best meet our clients’ needs.

I think you will find that the four educational programs we are planning for this year will address the issues that are most crucial at this time. Our first meeting in September addresses “Disability Insurance and Long-Term Care Insurance”, important tools in protecting assets. In November, a panel of economists will conduct a “bull and bear” session for the members. The January meeting will address “Trust Reformation and Document Review; Estate Changes”; always important, and more so when tax laws change. The April meeting is all about “Behavioral Economics”. This is always a fascinating topic, but even more so given the recent market activity.

We are planning something different this year for the Annual Meeting in lieu of a luncheon. At this time, we are working on a family event at the Brockton Rox stadium that would include a barbeque and a game!  What fun!  I hope all members will be able to attend with their families.

As always, we will hold our annual networking meeting in October at the Wollaston Country Club. This is a great time to relax and meet other members and introduce potential new members to the organization. Please take advantage of this opportunity.

We also encourage you to bring potential members to any meeting. Our Council will continue to be a successful and dynamic organization only if its membership continues to grow. To that end, part of our mission is to foster opportunities within the Council to meet and exchange ideas with other dedicated professionals.

As always, the officers and members of the Executive Committee encourage you to discuss with us any new ideas you may have for programs or concepts that you feel will better serve our membership. Please participate and stay involved and see how membership in this vital organization benefits you. I look forward to meeting each of you and thank you for the opportunity to serve as President.
